Qantas recently launched their new “Qantas Club Flexible” pay by the month lounge access, which costs $99 for 28-day access to the airline's domestic and international lounges. This new membership joins the original Qantas Club Membership which is available for purchase as one-year, two-year, and four-year packages, priced between $699 and $2,399 making the month by month option perfect for travelers who don’t fly regularly.
Qantas Club Flexible is a rolling 28 Day membership, that can be canceled at any time up until three days prior to renewal (members will still have lounge access until the end of that cycle). While the membership is active you will have access to all Domestic Qantas Clubs, Regional Lounges and all international Qantas Business Lounges, in Australian and other key locations including Auckland, Singapore, Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles and additional checked baggage.
The Qantas lounges are a great place to get away from the busyness of the airport with plenty of seating options, delicious fresh food and fully stocked bars available. In the Australian based lounges the food is conveniently self-serve with a wide variety of options available, depending on the time of day you visit this could include hot and cold meal, cereals and pastries for Breakfast, and light meals for Lunch and Dinner. (including the famous toasties!)
All lounges feature a range of seating including classic dining room style, and comfortable lounge chairs. You are never too far from a table to rest your food and drink on or a quiet place to relax.
International lounges are bigger and often take inspiration from their location while still keeping to their Australian values. The Hong Kong lounge for example is separated into zones for comfort, work, dining and a dedicated children’s zone. The HK lounge features the comfortable Spice Temple bar where you can sit back and relax with a cocktail, glass or wine and an assortment of local delights from the buffet including fresh salads and hot dishes.
Unfortunately the Qantas Club Flexible membership only gives you access to ‘Qantas-Branded lounges” which means you will not have access to international partner lounges, such as Oneworld lounges in airports where there is no dedicated Qantas Lounge. Unlike the other Qantas memberships, there is no guesting privileges on the Flexible Membership without an Annual Guest card (for an additional $449)
Another downside of the Flexible membership is the joining fee of $129 which you will need to pay no matter if you are getting the flexible or annual membership. Qantas calls this a ‘once-off’ fee but unlike the annual membership, if you purchase the Flexible membership and cancel, then reactivate after 90-days you will need to pay the $129 joining fee again.
If you are looking at the Annual vs Flexible membership you are better off purchasing the Annual Qantas Club membership, $828 for the first year ($699 plus $129 joining fee) whereas the Flexible membership would cost $1,416 for a year ($99 for 13 28-day access passes. Plus $129 joining fee). Overall if you are traveling for less than a year, mainly with Qantas and would like to have a place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the airport, purchasing the Qantas Club Flexible membership would be worth it to know you have somewhere to go for a comfortable place to sit, delicious food and fully stocked bars.
