We take a look around inside The Jewel at Changi Airport. The highly anticipated addition to the World's Best Airport opened this month and the 5 storey hight indoor water at it's centre is a sight to behold!
The Jewel is located next to Changi T1, from the taxi drop off point you can access by simply crossing the road, alternatively enter the terminal and access The Jewel via the underpass.
Once you enter The Jewel you are immediately drawn to the central 'Rain Vortex' waterfall. Reaching 5 stories high, the waterfall can be viewed from all 5 stories of the surrounding building with different viewing platforms. The transit train even runs straight past the waterfall, giving passengers changing terminals a great view point!
At ground level, the waterfall disappears into an abyss, and on the 5 basement level floors the waterfall can be viewed from underneath.
The waterfall is surrounded by lush tropical gardens and thousands of Singapore's signature orchid.
Around the waterfall is essentially a large circular shopping centre. Tip #1 is to make use of the Early check in counters and drop off any luggage. There's also a luggage storage option for any carry on luggage you want to store until your flight.
Note - this early check in counter is much larger (and quicker) than the one inside Terminal 1. Even if you just want to check in early for your flight and then head in to terminal 1 or to your Business Class Lounge we recommend checking in here.
Tip #2 is to pick up a guide book from the concierge stand. The Jewel is big, spanning over 10 floors, the detailed guide will help you find what you're after - especially if you're short on meandering time.
There are over 150 stores at The Jewel and shopping covers from all your major high street hops, to unique Singapore collections created local brands, to high end designers.
Dining options are also plentiful at The Jewel with over 100 options to choose from. A basement level food court provides a lot of options, along with boutique dining options and restaurants with airy terraces and views over the waterfall and gardens.
Big name chains are also pulling a crowd with the line up to get in Shake Shack stretching down the mall on opening day.
Still under construction, the next stage of The Jewel, Canopy Park, which includes a hedge maze, slides, and a bouncy net walk across the top of the indoor rainforest will open on June 10th 2019.
The Jewel as a great place to spend time while in transit at Changi airport, and the Rain Vortex and surrounding gardens are worth getting to the airport early to check out.
